12.1 Overview
In this second capstone project, you'll apply the user research, user experience design, and roadmapping skills you've learned in this phase to a scenario involving adding features to an existing product. Your deliverables will include a user survey, notes from interviews with three users, a storyboard, a prototype, a summary of a usability test with at least one user, and a product roadmap. You will bring all of these together in a presentation covering your findings and recommendations.
Hiring managers look for new PMs who can demonstrate a keen understanding of users and a strong ability to prioritize, plan, and iterate on ideas. Doing user research and then translating it into product ideas is a great way for you to build those skills. It's also an opportunity to collect the stories you'll be able to share in job interviews later. It's designed to be a lot of work, but it is one of the most valuable experiences you'll have in this program.
Project requirements
This module is designed to help you break down the capstone project into manageable milestones. Each checkpoint requires several submitted deliverables but may also include tasks that contribute to the capstone without a specific deliverable. Read each checkpoint's instructions carefully to ensure that you are delivering what is expected of you.
Your final presentation must include the following:
- A summary of findings from your user research
- A summary of your usability test results
- A prioritized list of features that you considered building and an explanation of why the items are prioritized this way
- Your roadmap of features to launch an MVP of the experience
- A storyboard and prototype for the MVP of the experience
You'll have smaller deliverables throughout this module. As you move through the checkpoints, you will complete the different elements of this work. By the end of the module, you will be putting all of these together and assembling a presentation.
